Wal-Mart has pledged a donation of $2 billion to help fight hunger over the next five years. More than one billion meals.
That happened 10 days ago-and while newspapers ran some small mentions, I don't think it got nearly the press that it deserves. Target is doing similarly great work fighting hunger in school classrooms.
All corporations aren't evil-as hard as it is for us to accept that these days. As New York magazine quipped in it's May 24 Approval Matrix, "If Wal-Mart thinks it's going to get in our good graces just by donating $2 billion to fight hunger... Wait, that actually is pretty great."
