Synthetic Cells
Researchers at the private J. Craig Venter Institute announced Thursday that they'd created a synthetic cell, completely controlled by man-made genetic instructions, reported the Wall Street Journal Friday.
And over the weekend, the Vatican praised the research, saying it was "important research" and "the work of high-quality genetic engineering." But it said the scientists who created the cell had not created life, just "replaced one of its motors."
Some people think this is a very big deal and others think it's going to open Pandora's Box in a terrifying way. I simply encourage you to pay attention.
