Tax Day: Are you in the 53% who pay federal income tax?

As we learned last week, some 47% will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009, according to the Tax Policy Center.

This was somewhat shocking and disturbing news for many of us who are forking over our checks to the IRS - and for anyone who watched the recent CNN segments about how futile our attempts to shrink the country's debt seem to be.

Look closer, says the New York Times.

No big deal, says Jake Simpson in the Atlantic.

Um, this is absurd-why aren't people paying their fair share, ask FoxNews.

Pamela Anderson is screaming: Hey! I'm paying my fair share (because you caught me).

And, as always, Jon Stewart offers a lighter perspective.

Poll numbers out today say more of us are angry about our taxes--and think the money is being wasted--than did back in the 1980s. I don't know about you, but doing my taxes always makes me want to embrace the virtue of thrift ... and self-control... just a little bit more next year. Happy Tax Day.
